Birding Areas on the Southern Slope of the Chaku Ridge Chaku : 2405m. Temperate broad-leaved forest, meadows in ancient clear-felled patches. Bompu : 1940m. Subtropical broad-leaved forest and bamboo, large patch of open scrub. Sessni : 1250m. broad-leaved forest. Patches of abandoned cultivation.,with secondary scrub. Khellong : 750m. tropical forest, grazing meadows and degraded scrub.
Kamengbari - Doimara : 100-350m.
Tropical forest, grazing meadows, shingle banks and cultivation. There is no infrastructure for stay available in the sanctuary. We will set up fully serviced camps and take care of all your logistics.
You get to the birding sites by jeep, and by walking (to Piri La and Bra Top). Birding by jeep is possible up to an altitude of 2800 m. Birding duration: 06- 08 days
] Nameri National Park of Assam is contiguous with Pakke Tiger Reserve, lying just across the Assam-Arunachal state border at both Seijusa1 and Khari. Birding at Nameri is an alternative. The vegetation in the birding areas is lowland evergreen forests, shingle banks, farmland plantations To get to Pakke, you have to fly in from Delhi, Bagdogra or Kolkotta to Guwahati. You first drive 181 due West to Tezpur, for an overnight halt. The next day drive 24 kms to Balipara, on the Tezpur-Tawang Highway, to take the branch road to Sejusa 2, which is just 44 kms away. Restricted Area Permits for foreigners are checked at Sejusa 1 The best season is Nov-March.
Speciality Birds : jerdon's baza, pied falconet, white-cheeked hill-partridge, grey peacock-pheasant, elwe's crake, ibisbill, emerald cuckoo, red-headed trogon, green-pigeon, forest eagle-owl, wreathed and great hornbills, collared and long-tailed broadbills, blue-naped pitta, lesser shortwing, white-browed shortwing, daurian redstart, leschenault's forktail, lesser necklaced laughing-thrush, silver-eared Mesia, white-bellied yuhina, yellow-bellied flycatcher-warbler, sultan tit, ruby-cheeked sunbird, maroon oriole, crow-billed drongo, Birding areas There are several areas in woodlands and forests around the forest department complex, at Sejusa and Khari and along the road to Khari. Birding logistics Sejusa and Khari have Forest Rest Houses, offering basic accommodation for 04 persons. We will set up fully serviced camps and take care of all your logistics.
Walking inside the park is permitted if accompanied by
a forest guard. The only vehicle track inside the sanctuary is between
Khari and Seijusa. All other areas have to be accessed on foot or on an
elephant. Nameri offers an attractive alternative to Pakke. It is located in Assam, where Restricted Area permits are not required. Importantly it avoids expending out of the limited time of 10 days permitted in Arunachal Pradesh. Nameri also has good infrastructure for stay. |
